Basant Mohanty to get Cricketer of the Year Award

Orissa swing bowler Basant Mohanty was today chosen to receive the Sahid Sporting-Maruti Estate Cricketer of the Year Award (2010-11) for bagging 21 wickets in the Ranji Trophy Championship last season. This the second time that Bhubaneswar bowler will be bagging this award, which carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000. Mohanty received the award for the first time in the year 2008-09. Date and venue of the presentation function will be announced later.

The award was instituted in the year 1992-93 by Saheed Sporting Club with Maruti Eastate Private Limited as the sponsor. Former India swing bowler Debasis Mohanty bagged the award for a maximum of five times (1996-97, 2000-01, 2004-05, 2006-07, 2007-08), while batsman Pravanjan Mullick got it thrice (1997-98, 2001-02, 2005-06).

Other past recipients include Ranjib Biswal (1992-93), P Jayachandra (1993-94), Rashmi Ranjan Parida (1994-95), Prashant Mohapatra (1995-96), Shiv Sundar Das (1998-99), Sanjay Satpathy (1999-2000), BBCC Mohapatra (2002-03), Deepak Mangaraj (2003-04) and Dhiraj Singh (2009-10).
